Our students and improving their life chances need to be at the centre of everything we do at Co-op Academy Swinton. I have seen the difference a positive start in life through school can make to young people, their families and the communities they live in both through my personal and professional experiences.
In the mid 1970s my father moved our family to Hong Kong where I lived until going on to university in England. I attended a school that promoted hard work and effort as the main actions you need to take to be successful. What this experience taught me was that, if you are prepared to work hard, you can achieve your ambitions and make a difference for others around you as well. I want the children I work for to share this understanding so that they can have a great start in life and have a choice about what they do in the future.
At university I studied a Sports Science degree and went on to train as a PE teacher before moving to the Greater Manchester area. Since then I have worked as Head of PE in two separate schools in Tameside and Manchester before becoming a Deputy Headteacher in Oldham. Another Deputies post in Tameside followed before being appointed the Headteacher of Swinton, without a doubt this is the best job I have ever had.
Away from work I live with my wife and two sons and spend most evenings and weekends as ‘Dad’s Taxi’ to their various sporting activities.
