Increasing data allowances on mobile devices to support our students

Increasing data allowances on mobile devices to support our students

Last week the Department for Education announced that it was working with the UK’s leading mobile network operators to provide access to children without internet access.

The scheme is part of the DfE’s ‘Get Help with Technology Programme’ and can temporarily increase data allowances for mobile phone users on certain networks to allow children and young people to access remote education if their face-to-face education is disrupted.

How do I apply?

We, as a school, are required to to provide the Department for Education with the details of all families who wish to request an increased data allowance. To allow us to make this request on your behalf, please complete this Google Form BEFORE Wednesday 13 January 2021 at 3pm:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfPsmWjC2tEPPegGHtt2A6EwxBcb61J63gUImcHyfbeT76taw/viewform

You MUST read the Privacy Statement prior to completing and remember, the deadline for this is Wednesday 13 January 2021 at 3pm.

How will the offer work?

Once you have provided us with your details we will submit them to the Department for Education. Once your network provider has processed a data increase, they will send a text message to the account holder to confirm.

There will be a high demand for this and we, as a school, are not in control of response time. It is a brand new scheme so please be patient.

The level of additional data will vary by provider, but for example, THREE customers will receive unlimited data and EE customers with receive and extra 20GB per month. Other providers supporting the offer include; Tesco Mobile, Smarty, Sky Mobile, Virgin Mobile, Vodafone and O2.
