Hello and welcome to Co-op Academy Swinton!

We hope this page provides you with all the information you will need ahead of the start of our new academic year in September 2022 but if there is anything we can help you with along the way before then, please get in touch with our Year 7 team at: transition@swinton.coopacademies.co.uk or call us on: 0161 794 6215

Although an exciting challenge, we recognise it can be a daunting experience for some. We fully understand the needs of our new students and do everything we can to ensure that this transition is both smooth and relaxed.

Much of our communication with you ahead of September will be online so please check your emails regularly for any correspondence from us. Please also keep an eye on our website and social media channels Facebook and Twitter too for updates. We look forward to welcoming you and your child soon!


Important next steps : Admissions Data Collection Form

Once you have received a formal offer from Salford Local Authority for a place at Co-op Academy Swinton you must complete our Admissions Data Collection Form 2022 (see button link below and right) and return it to us no later than Friday 24 June 2022. The online link to this form is below.

Calendar of Key Dates

In-School Visits:
From week commencing Monday 16 May 2022, our Co-op Academy Swinton Primary Transition Team will begin to visit the children in their primary school settings, speaking to all Year 6 students
Teacher Meetings:
On Wednesday 18 May Year 6 primary teachers will meet with our Year 7 Manager, Year 7 Pupil Progress Coordinator, Senior Leadership Team, SENDCo and LAC Officer
Deadline for completing online forms:
By Friday 24 June 2022 you must have completed and submitted the following online forms:

Primary Intake Days:
Two fun days for the children, spent with us here on Thursday 30 June and Friday 1 July.
During the two days children follow a typical timetable to give them an insight to our academy routine and what a typical day looks like. They’ll have the opportunity to look around the school and learn all about our Co-op values, procedures and expectations and take part in a culinary challenge.
Please arrive at the academy by 8:20am on both days. All children will stay on the premises during lunchtime. Please ensure they have either money for snacks, a school meal or sandwiches. Children who receive free school meals will receive their entitlement as normal. Travel for your child to and from Co-op Academy Swinton must be organised by parents/carers.
Although our activities are planned to start at 8:30am we would love your child to join us for a welcome breakfast at 8am to kick start their day.
Time: 8:30am-2:45pm (On Thursday 30 June your child must wear their full primary school PE kit and on Friday 1 July your child must wear their full primary school uniform )
Primary Intake Parents’ Evening:

Nurture Taster Sessions:
From week commencing Monday 4 July, these sessions are arranged for specific children only, which will have been agreed between their primary school and ourselves.
Travel for your child to and from Co-op Academy Swinton will be organised with their primary school. Time: 9am-10am (Your child’s full primary school uniform must be worn)
Summer Transition Day:
Why not join us on Friday 2 September for a fun afternoon, filled with activities to help you feel confident about starting at high school? As the summer holidays come to an end, some students may become anxious about the big day and we know it can be quite daunting for some children and their families.
Children are invited to bring a parent/carer (or other important adult) to join us for the afternoon as we will also be offering advice to parents on how to support their child at the start of their high school education – we know that parents can be anxious about this time too!
Travel to and from Co-op Academy Swinton for this event must be organised by parents/carers. Time: 12pm-3pm

First Day!
Your child’s first day at Co-op Academy Swinton is Wednesday 7 September 2022. Children should arrive at school for 8:30am and be wearing their full Co-op Academy Swinton PE Kit

Meet our Year 7 Team

Welcome to Co-op Academy Swinton, we’re really excited to meet you! We are here to support you through every aspect of school life for the next five years.

Mr Sloan, Year 7 Pupil Progress Coordinator
Hello, my name is Mr Sloan and I am the Year 7 Pupil Progress Coordinator here at Co-op Academy Swinton. Leaving primary school to attend high school should be an exciting time with the many new subjects you will be learning and the friends you will make along the way. As your Pupil Progress Coordinator I will be working closely with your primary school teachers to provide you with the best possible start at Co-op Academy Swinton. As a key figure in the Year Group I am always on hand to help with any concerns you or your parents/carers may have. We endeavour to make your transition from primary to secondary school one which is exciting, challenging and memorable. Hope to see you all soon!
Mr Bowcott, Year 7 Manager
Hi, I’m Mr Bowcott and and I am the Year 7 Manager here at Co-op Academy Swinton. I am a non-teaching member of staff, here to work in partnership with primary schools to ensure the process of transition to high school is as smooth as possible. During the school year I work closely with classroom based teachers, parents, students and other professionals, to address any barriers to learning and ensure that all students are able to engage with their education. I am here to ensure your child is safe, happy, involved and able to perform to their full potential. I’m really looking forward to meeting you all!

Year 6 Art Competition

We are so excited to meet you when you join us for your Primary Transition Days but before then we want you to show us how amazingly creative you can be with the launch of our Year 6 Art Competition. Are you up for the challenge?

The Task
Can you create a piece of artwork to illustrate our ‘Co-op Values’? Your entry can be whatever you want it to be, a drawing, a painting, a model…let your imagination run wild!

How do I enter?
To submit your entry you just need to bring it with you to your Primary Intake Day next week and hand it in to one of your new Year Team members of staff. We can’t wait to see your designs…good luck!

The prize
There will be prizes awarded to the top three entries and the winners’ artwork will be displayed with pride of place on our new ‘Outstanding Ways of Being Wall’


Locker Hire 2022-2023

There is an is an extremely high demand for lockers in school and we cannot guarantee availability.

If you would like your child to hire a locker for the academic year, September 2022-July 2023 please complete the request form below.

Lockers are allocated on a ‘first-come first-served’ basis on the replies we receive. Your child will be notified during their first week in school if they have been successful. Please note, this form is purely a request for your interest in a locker.

The cost to hire a locker for the full academic year is £7 which must be paid via our online payment system, Scopay. Should a student lose their key, a charge of £3.50 will be made for a replacement. Please note, if there is no spare key for your child’s locker available, it will have to be ordered which will take time.


Summer Transition Day 2022

We would like to invite you to join us for a fun family afternoon at Co-op Academy Swinton, just for the students joining us in Year 7 this September and their parents/carers.

As the long summer holidays come to an end, some students may become anxious about the big day and starting at high school. We know it can be quite daunting for some children and their families. Don’t worry! We have arranged a fun afternoon of activities designed to help you and your child feel happy and confident about starting at high school. There is nopressure – just fun – and the opportunity to get to know other new students and parents.

Date: Friday 2 September 2022
Time: Registration and Refreshments at 12 noon. Activities start at 12:30pm and will finish at approximately 3pm
Activities will include: A fun knowledge treasure trail, Creating your face on a cookie, Fun PE and Food Technology challenges

We will also be offering advice to parents on how to support their child at the start of their high school education. We know that parents can be anxious about this time too.

Our Year 7 Transition Team will begin a series of visits to see your child in their primary school setting from week commencing 16 May 2022.

During this, your child will be given some helpful booklets to bring home, packed with all the information you need to know ahead of September but we’ve included them below too so you can refer to them whenever you need.
