Black History Month
We’ve been marking Black History Month in our academy all throughout October with many different celebrations. From movie nights, to African dance performances and music playlists to a multi-cultural food tasting session.
We have seen some excellent organisation by students and staff to really celebrate Black History Month in style. We were wowed with an amazing dance show, which included members of the audience joining a dance battle, a poster campaign educating staff and students about some forgotten but significant heroes in black history and a cinema club showing films which students voted best represented the black community.
Furthermore, students hosted our first ‘pop-up food court’ sharing food from different cultures which they had prepared at home. It was an excellent opportunity to share with friends and for students to try some new food which they might not have had the chance to before. We would like to thank Paradise Fish Bar for providing us with bio-degradable taster pots and forks free of charge, as well as all the families who supported our students and helped them get all of their wonderful dishes to school.
Most excitingly, Black History Month, has brought together a team of our students who want to do more to celebrate different cultures throughout the year. Our newly formed ‘Cultural Awareness Society’ will be working together to host similar events throughout the school year, so watch this space!
