Bursting with ‘Pride’
On Friday 26 April we celebrated our very first ‘Swinton Pride Day’, organised with the help of our LGBTQ+ club and it couldn’t have been more of a success.
We decided to organise a day full of activities to promote the LGBTQ+ community, share the fun our club are enjoying during our lunch time club sessions and raise some money for our club.
During break and lunchtime we set up a sweet and bake sale in JBs cafe to sell the sweet cones our club had lovingly made and the many donated ‘rainbow’ cakes we received from our students and staff.
Over lunch, we also got creative with some funky face painting, sold our wonderful new ‘Pride’ badges and raffled an amazingly colourful rainbow hamper, bursting with sweet treats. Our lucky hamper winner was Year 11 student Rebecca Hooley.
We raised a fantastic total of £284.63 for the LGBTQ+ community. This money will help us continue the LGBTQ+ club and we are donating £250 to Stonewall – the charity that supports the UK’s LGBT community.
