Connell Sixth Form College Open Evening Invite
I wrote you a month or so ago to make you aware that Connell Sixth Form College, which is situated close to the Manchester City FC campus, is hoping to join Co-op Academies Trust. The work to convert Connell into our Trust is continuing and we are hopeful this will be completed shortly.
The College was judged ‘Good’ by Ofsted in January 2018 and offers a wide range of courses, including a variety of A-Levels and Level 3 BTEC programmes. A high proportion of students go on to university or gain an apprenticeship or paid work when they leave. Academic and vocational performance are impressive. The size of the College is a little smaller than others and this ensures the staff know the students well and helps to provide a personal service to them.
I was pleased to see so many of you at the recent Open Day in early October and grateful for the positive comments many of you made. The final Open Evening is coming up and I wanted to remind you that it is taking place on Thursday 15 November from 5pm to 7pm.
I would recommend that you attend as many Open Events as possible so that you can help your child to select the right place for them. At Connell you will see the outstanding facilities, learn about the courses on offer and the support provided, discover the extra opportunities available to students and speak to members of staff. I will be available to explain how the Co-op is supporting students in a variety of ways including those on a unique BTEC business course. Up to 20 students will receive a substantial grant from the College while undertaking a 40 day work placement in the Co-op covering all areas of the business including digital, HR, accountancy and leadership development. This is a unique opportunity because as far as we are aware no other 6th Form College offers this type of course and no other business financially supports students by way of a grant in this way.
During the Open day last month, a few parents and students asked where the sporting and leisure facilities were at the College. I was delighted to point out that students have free access to the impressive East Manchester Leisure Centre directly opposite the College.
I look forward to seeing you at the Open Evening.
