Fairtrade Fortnight 2019

Fairtrade Fortnight 2019

Our academy is really proud to be supporting Fairtrade Fortnight this year in a whole host of exciting ways. From one-off events to incorporating Fairtrade themes into all our lessons, there is a lot to look forward to.

Fairtrade Fortnight runs from 25 February until 10 March 2019 and the theme is ‘Cocoa’ and ‘Women in Cocoa’. Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world.

In addition to the inspirational learning we have planned, here is a list of all the fantastic events we’re hosting.

Fairtrade Bake Off | Friday 1 March 2019
In support of Fairtrade Fortnight we are inviting staff and students to take part in a Fairtrade Bake Off using as many Fairtrade ingredients as they are able to in their recipe. Bring your goodies into school on Friday 1 March 2019 for judging, items will then be sold to staff and students at break and lunchtime and all money raised will go to the Fairtrade Foundation. There will be Fairtrade prizes for the winning entries!

International Women’s Day/Fairtrade Baking Workshop | Friday 8 March 2019
In support of International Women’s Day and Fairtrade Fortnight we are inviting students to nominate an inspirational woman in their lives to join them for a Fairtrade baking workshop on Friday 8 March 2019. Students should write a letter to the Headteacher, stating which woman they would like to nominate and how they inspire them. This could be a grandmother, sister, mother, auntie, sports group leader or community member. The deadline to submit letters is Friday 15 February 2019 and there are 20 spaces available.

Fairtrade Hamper Raffle | Whole Fortnight
In support of Fairtrade Fortnight, we are offering you the chance to win a Fairtrade hamper full of delicious Fairtrade products. Raffle tickets are available at £1 per strip from Mrs Davies, Headteacher’s PA & Co-operative Co-ordinator every day during break and lunch. All money raised will be donated to the Fairtrade Foundation.
