Outcome of consultation on changes to the academy day for September 2021
Monday 19 July 2021
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you to all parents and carers who took the time to participate in the consultation about proposed changes to the academy day from September 2021.
There will be some minor changes to the academy in September that we believe will enhance the learning experience in which our students can flourish. One way that we can achieve this is to think about how we structure our lessons and timings of the day and also the provision and learning itself.
Mrs Ali, her leadership team and all the staff at Swinton will work to ensure that this is the case. As the consultation period progressed, Mrs Ali made a number of adjustments to the original plans and we would like to remind you of the proposals that we asked for your feedback on.
Split Lunch vs One lunch slot
There were a range of views on this proposal. The main concern from students and parents was that 30 minutes for lunch is not enough time. We have listened to what you have said and we have decided to keep one lunch slot for all students that will last 35 minutes and in order to ensure that all students receive their lunch quickly, we will be opening additional food serving bays. There will now be enough space in the Main Canteen, JBs and outdoor serving bays to ensure all students can eat their lunch and have enough time to get ready for their form time learning experience. We will have staff on duty throughout lunch to support students.
The response to the earlier start has been largely positive on the grounds of the increased learning opportunity, although some students did highlight some challenges with them getting into the academy slightly earlier. A small number of parents are concerned that they may struggle with the early start due to personal circumstances and if this is the case we will look at each situation case by case and work with you to alleviate the concerns and find a solution.
The plan for the revised academy day is below for your reference.
We would like to wish you and your family a restful summer break and we look forward to welcoming all our students into the academy for the new academic year.
