Year 7s collaborate with University of Salford for drama performance
Earlier this year we welcomed two students from University of Salford into our academy for 6 weeks to work with some of our Year 7 classes, assisting them with their University dissertation performance. University students Abi Bowen and Emily Slattery were thrilled with our students input, here’s what they had to say;
We worked with the Co-op Academy Swinton for 6 weeks and with two wonderful Year 7 classes to gather research for our University dissertation performance. Our aim was to give the children of Salford a platform to make their voices heard whilst still remaining anonymous. We wanted to help the students gain confidence and educate them on devising techniques.
Each lesson was planned so that the students got as much out of it as we did. We put this into our performance ‘Notification’ an immersive piece of theatre about what it is like to be a child in Salford in 2018. We really enjoyed working with Co-op Academy Swinton, both the students and staff were so welcoming to our project. A special thank you to Mrs Speakman for helping us achieve a great performance and supporting us along the way. It was truly an unforgettable moment in our performance career and we will keep those memories with us forever. Thank you Swinton! Abi Bowen and Emily Slattery, University of Salford
