Year 11 join RISE Workshop at Old Trafford

Earlier this week our Manchester United Foundation Hub Officer, Adele Howarth, accompanied a group of our Year 11 students to Old Trafford Stadium where they attended a RISE Workshop in the Trafford Suite.

Rise is one of the largest award programmes for individuals in the world. The Rise programme starts at ages 15-17, connecting talent and offering access to benefits that last a lifetime, including scholarships, mentorships, access to career development opportunities, funding and more.

The students were able to listen to work on their current projects whilst also participating in group work tasks. Later on they enjoyed a very inspirational speech from one of last years’ RISE winners, Thomas Grattoni-May. Thomas talked about the project he had completed with RISE, the vision he had for it and how RISE have helped enable his project to come alive. Thomas then joined our students for lunch, engaged and asked him plenty of questions. The workshop was then followed by a stadium tour around Old Trafford.

“Our Year 11’s are continuously working hard now to make sure they get their projects submitted. Today was a big eye opener for them, listening to Tom’s story and I’ve seen such a drive in them over the past couple of days in getting their projects completed. I was so proud at the way they conducted themselves today, they did Co-op Academy Swinton very proud. I can’t wait to hear about their finished projects”

Adele Howarth, Manchester United Foundation Officer

“Today was amazing, it was inspirational and eye opening to how amazing the opportunity is. The talk from Thomas was phenomenal and it made me realise that I need to take opportunity of this. The tour was also amazing, as a Man United fan as well I couldn’t have asked for anything better!”

Harley Hanson, Year 11

“We started off the day not really knowing what to expect, however we were all amazed and felt very welcomed by Manchester United Foundation. We listened to the inspiring Thomas Grattoni-May’s story and today has inspired us all so much and it was really nice to come together as a group to share our ideas and passions. The stadium really was the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ and we all came out with a different outlook on life. The support was great and I have high hopes for all of our futures! We are all grateful for this opportunity”
