Tour of MediaCityUK for our Year 11 Photography Students

You may remember that during the Autumn Term last year our Year 11 GCSE Photography students were involved in a project organised by charity I4YPC called ‘Snap Your Town‘. They spent several months capturing beautiful and inspiring pieces which were then featured on local billboards October.

Last week, our Art and Photography teachers Mrs Shuttleworth and Ms Shakespeare-Smyth surprised the students again with a tour of MediaCityUK to reveal their work on MediaCity’s giant digital screen overlooking the gardens and piazza and directly under the BBC Blue Peter Garden!

When it was revealed the students were astounded and the look on their faces said it all. Head of Art, Mrs Shuttleworth said; “It certainly is a highlight and a memory we all will cherish”

Their work grabbed the attention of passers by and it was shown throughout the night. The group then went on to enjoy a behind the scenes tour of its world-class TV studios in dock10. They got to see where The Voice is filmed, met the TV producer, learnt about sound, visuals and the opportunities available for students to enter the world of media.

Their night was topped off with drinks and pizza at Marco Pierre White no less! (granted most of our students had to Google who MPW was!)

MediaCityUK were so impressed with the quality of their work they have agreed to make part of the show a semi-permanent feature. This is such an amazing achievement for our students and we are very proud of them. If you happen to be visiting The Lowry please check it out.

I enjoyed my photography trip as I got to experience a lot of things I would never have seen if I hadn’t been there. The billboard was a once in a lifetime experience and I really didn’t expect our work as a class to be on such a huge display. I learnt lots of new things while on the tour!

Mille, Year 11

I thoroughly enjoyed the school trip and haven’t ever been given an opportunity like this before. To have my work not only on billboards in my local area but also at MediaCityUK is a chance I am unbelievably grateful to have had. As well as seeing my work on display I also had the experience of a tour of Dock 10! Showing my family the pictures of being the scenes from where some of their favourite shows are filmed was so fun! Thank you!
