Assistant Principal

“A gifted teacher is not only prepared to meet the needs to today’s child, but is also prepared to foresee the hopes and dreams in every child’s future” (Robert John Meehan) I was fortunate to have a gifted teacher at each stage of my education that not only supported me, but saw potential and inspired me to go further. It was those teachers that I remember the most and those that I model my own career on.

Science was always an area that fascinated me, always wanting to know why and constantly wanting to explain the world around me, it was a memorable teacher that unlocked my potential and encouraged me to strive for a career in Science. This led me to achieving a Bsc (Hons) in Medicinal and Analytical Chemistry at Liverpool John Moores University and my PGCE in Secondary Science.

I started my teaching career at an inner city school in Manchester, working to inspire the next generation through my roles as Intervention Coordinator and Second in Faculty, leaving to progress my career as a Lead Practitioner for Science at a school in Oldham. Whilst in Oldham I became Director of Science and led a successful faculty for six years, also taking on the supplementary role of a Specialist Leader in Education for Science within Co-op Academies Trust. This role allows me the opportunity to work with colleagues within the trust to ensure they are reaching their full potential as teachers and are also delivering the high quality Science education that is the right of all students to access and be part of.

Co-op Academy Swinton will be the third school within my career and I feel privileged to begin my journey as part of Senior Leadership here. I am excited to work with the talented staff body to help students maximise their potential through holding the highest expectations and standards to become the best versions of themselves. “Let us remember: One book, one pen, one child and one teacher can change the world” (Malala Yousafzai)
