Important information for Year 9 parents and carers – Remote Learning
Unfortunately, due to higher than usual levels of staff absence related to Covid, we have taken the very difficult decision to reduce the number of students attending the academy for a short period. All of Year 9 will be asked to learn from home starting tomorrow (Friday 28 January) for two days, returning to the academy on Tuesday 1 February 2022. Whilst we ask Year 9 to learn from home during this period, staff will provide online tutoring on Google Classroom for every lesson as per their normal timetable.
Teachers will be live tutoring each timetabled lesson. This will ensure that students receive the support to complete the learning as they would do if this was a face to face lesson. To clarify, this does not mean that students should expect to see their class teacher on a video link, rather the teacher will be available throughout the timetabled lesson to provide support to students using the Google platform. Teachers have pre-planned these lessons with a voice recording explaining the lesson to students as they would do if the lesson was face to face. Our remote learning will follow the mapped curriculum therefore it is imperative that students complete the work set and are on line ready to follow their timetable lesson by lesson. Students are expected to virtually attend every lesson and complete all the work set for them by their class teachers. Instructions on how to submit work will be given by their teachers. Teachers will provide feedback and students can request support via the chat function on Google Classroom.
I understand that this situation will be difficult for many of you but the decision has been made to ensure continuity of education for students, whilst prioritising the safe running of the academy. Although we do already have a number of supply staff on site, it is becoming increasingly difficult to source further supply staff due to the increased demand nationally.
Thank you to those parents who completed our remote learning survey regarding access to devices. We will be in contact with those who have said they need additional support to be able to work from home through the Google Classroom platform. Please make contact with us if you need any help with access to remote learning.
Thank you for your continued support.
