Black History Month Celebrations
Every year, throughout the UK, we celebrate Black History Month in October as a way to celebrate the past, promote the present and build for the future. At Co-op Academy Swinton, we recognise the minorities within our community and because of this, we would like to invite you to a series of events to honour these cultures.
These events will be held throughout the course of the next three weeks and have been organised by our Cultural Awareness Society, a group made up of Year 10 students who have had help from other students, teachers and parents/carers.
For the first three Thursday’s in October we will be holding special ‘Movie Nights’, starting at 3:15pm in The Globe.
Thursday 4th October : Black Panther
Thursday 11th October : Hidden Figures
Thursday 18th October : Dreamgirls
We will also have an ‘Around-The-World’ Cultural Food Tasting session on Wednesday 17th October and this will be held in Lower Hall during lunchtime and some very special African dancing with a modern twist on Tuesday 16th October during lunchtime in the Gym.
We’ve also created something for our music fans. We’ve compiled four different playlists of fantastic black artists to play during our Basketball practice on Fridays throughout October. There are four genre playlists; RnB, Afro Beats, Jazz/Reggae and Hip Hop.
All events will be free and everyone is welcome.
