International Women’s Day Baking Workshop
Our two-week long programme of events to mark Fairtrade Fortnight came to a spectacular end today with an ‘International Women’s Day‘ Baking workshop. Students were asked to nominate an inspirational woman in their life to join them for a master class to bake delicious Red Velvet Brownies made with Fairtrade ingredients.
Organised by our very own Co-op Coordinator, Mrs Davies, our guests were welcomed into school this morning accompanied by the students who nominated them. After relaxing and enjoying some Fairtade drinks in JBs Cafe our bakers donned their aprons and got stuck in melting, whisking and mixing.
Pretty soon the aroma of warm chocolate was drifting across school and the Brownies were ready to come out of the oven. Everyone was delighted with their final product and tucked into their delights before parcelling them up to take home.

Our thanks go to the students and their guests for making our workshop so enjoyable and we really hope to hold more events like this in the future.
We’ve had an overwhelmingly successful Fairtrade Fortnight here at Co-op Academy Swinton. We’ve held a Fairtrade Bake Off, today’s Baking Workshop, Fairtrade Hamper Raffles, a Fairtrade ‘tuck shop’ at break and lunchtimes and many of our lessons throughout the fortnight have involved learning about Fairtrade too. We are very proud to say that our events have raised £417 so far for Fairtrade and the support of our students, staff, parents and carers never ceases to amaze us. Well done everyone!
